The story of Thanksgiving
· In 1620, a group of people, the Pilgrims, sailed from England to America.
· There were 100 people on the ship, called Mayflower.
· They want to start a new lift in America and practice their religion in freedom.
· They landed at a place on the north-east coast of America.
· They called it Plymouth.
· They were far from their home, and life was hard.
· They had little food and knew little about their new home.
· Their first winter was very cold and many of them became sick and died.
· However, the Native Americans who lived there decided to help them.
· They showed the Pilgrims how to grow corn and other plants.
· They also gave them medicine to treat their illinesses.
· They taught the Pilgrims how to hunt for food and build better houses.
· The Pilgrims worked hard and their crops grew.
· By November 1621, all of them had food and home.
· To thank the Native Americans, the Pilgrims invited them to a dinner.
· The dinner lasted for three days.
· This dinner was the first Thanksgiving.
